DTN News - UAE DEFENSE NEWS: Boeing Delivers 5th C-17 to UAE Air Force And Air Defence

DTN News - UAE DEFENSE NEWS: Boeing Delivers 5th C-17 to UAE Air Force And Air Defence

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 22, 2012: Boeing [NYSE: BA] delivered a fifth C-17 Globemaster III airlifter to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) Air Force and Air Defence earlier this month. The UAE accepted delivery of four C-17s in 2011 and has one more airlifter on order for delivery later this year.

"It's amazing to see all that the UAE has accomplished with its fleet of C-17s in such a short time, including standing up a new base; qualifying three aircraft commanders and four mission-ready loadmasters; and conducting humanitarian aid and peacekeeping missions," said Bob Ciesla, Boeing Airlift vice president and C-17 program manager.

"We're proud to be a part of the UAE Air Force and Air Defence mission long after each C-17 is delivered. With a mission-capable rate above 90 percent, UAE C-17s are ready to save lives and deliver hope whenever they are needed."

The UAE, Boeing's sixth international C-17 customer, received its first airlifter on May 10, 2011. Since that time, the UAE Air Force and Air Defence C-17 fleet has amassed more than 2,000 flight hours and carried more than 3,000 passengers and nearly 4 million pounds of cargo.

As a part of the worldwide C-17 "virtual fleet," UAE C-17s are supported through the Boeing C-17 Globemaster III Integrated Sustainment Program (GISP), a Performance-Based Logistics agreement. The GISP arrangement provides the highest airlift mission-capable rate at one of the lowest costs per flying hour.

DTN News - CANADA May 21 2012: Happy Victoria Day

DTN News - CANADA May 21 2012: Happy Victoria Day

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - May 21, 2012: Victoria Day is a public holiday observed across Canada on the Monday before May 25th.

Victoria Day celebrates Queen Victoria's birthday (May 24th). Canada is still a member of the Commonwealth of Nations, of which the Queen is head.

Victoria Day is always on a Monday, and thus the holiday is part of a long weekend, which is commonly referred to as the Victoria Day Weekend, the May Long Weekend, the May Long, or the May Two-Four (a case of beer there is called a "two-four" and many of these are consumed over the holiday). The weekend is also called the May 24th weekend, although it does not necessarily fall on May 24th.

The Victoria Day Weekend always falls on the weekend before Memorial Day in the U.S.

The Victoria Day Weekend is the first popular weekend for spring / summer travel. Lots of people open up their cottages, plant gardens, or just get away. Expect crowds at resorts and hotels and busy highways. Fireworks displays are common, especially on Monday night.

DTN News - CANADA DEFENSE NEWS: F-35 Stealth Fighter Program Faces Day Of Reckoning

DTN News - CANADA DEFENSE NEWS: F-35 Stealth Fighter Program Faces Day Of Reckoning

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - April 3, 2012: National Defence and Public Works face a day of reckoning today as the auditor general releases a much anticipated report on the troubled F-35 stealth fighter program.

A draft copy of Auditor General Michael Ferguson's report has been making the rounds in Ottawa for weeks.

Sources say it criticizes the government for not doing its pricing homework and failing to follow procurement rules in the largest ever military hardware purchase.

The Canadian Forces wants to buy 65 stealth fighters to replace the aging fleet of CF-18 jet fighters.

The Conservative government says it will pay US$75 million per aircraft when it starts buying them in 2016, which some critics say is too low by half.

The U.S. and Britain signed contracts for the delivery of early-production aircraft at between US$140 million and US$145 million each, but Canadian officials have long insisted that the price will drop as the assembly line ramps up.

DTN News - CANADA TODAY: Toronto Weather Report - March 31, 2012 By K. V. Seth

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 31, 2012: The whole month of March, 2012 - we had almost spring type weather even though a bit earlier that than expected also confusing the beautiful red Canadian Cardinal bird - I have seen singing on a tree in our garden. Believe or not, last night we had some snow, the white layer of snow looks so calm and serene with a fairy of sweet coolness in the environment.

On the other hand keeping in view with global climate changes, any thing is possible.

This winter we saw heavy snow in Europe and Japan, Romania had snow upto 15 feet covering entire villages and dwellings, the inhabitants had hard time digging themselves out from the white wintery snow for a fresh breath of  air or to see the blue sky. On the other side of the world, Aussieland ~ Australia was underwater with floods. The abnormal global climate changes are man made, we should implement and respect the resources of this planet and mother nature., else the cycle of unpredictment  will continue to drive changes in climate with heavy losses to human and materials.

In conclusion with a brighter day a ahead, we wish all our near and dear, friends on FB and acquaintances a HAPPY SPRING with lots of JOY and HAPPINESS.

Best wishes to all from Karam, Carina Seth & Family.

DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: Canada Bails Out Of NATO Airborne Surveillance Programs

DTN News - DEFENSE NEWS: Canada Bails Out Of NATO Airborne Surveillance Programs

(NSI News Source Info) TORONTO, Canada - March 18, 2012: The Canadian Forces hope to save $90 million a year by pulling out of NATO programs operating unmanned aerial vehicles as well as airborne early warning planes, according to documents obtained by the Citizen.

Defence Minister Peter MacKay gave U.S. officials a heads-up last year about the withdrawal, pointing out that it will free up 142 Canadians assigned to NATO for new jobs, the documents show.

The shutdown of Canada’s contribution to NATO’s airborne warning aircraft, known as AWACS, will save about $50 million a year, according to the records obtained under the Access to Information law. Another $40 million a year will be saved as a result of Canada’s withdrawal from NATO’s Alliance Ground Surveillance Program, which would see the purchase of advanced unmanned aerial vehicles to conduct surveillance and intelligence gathering.

Canada has been involved in NATO’s AWACS program for more than 25 years and the aircraft were seen as key to the alliance’s success during the recent war in Libya.

U.S. unmanned aerial vehicles, or UAVs as they are known in military parlance, were also used to gather intelligence information during the Libyan conflict. NATO wants to ease the strain on the U.S. UAVs by having a pool of Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicles at the alliance’s disposal.

Canada’s pull out from the UAV program will be done by the end of April, the Defence Department confirmed in a recent email. The withdrawal from the AWACS program is expected to take much longer.

The Canadian Forces contingent assigned to the AWACS aircraft is the last major Canadian military presence in Europe.
